Jakob Oetama: "Print Media to Have a New Research Institution"

The directorate of Serikat Perusahaan Pers (SPS) Pusat visits Jakob Oetama, the Chief of Consideration Council of SPS Pusat, in Kompas office, Jakarta, Tuesday (08/01/2013). One of the most important results from the meeting is the plan to build the media research board.

“(Media industry) has to have a research board to globally monitorize the trend in media industry and also help the publisher to be more professional,” Jakob says. He’s accompanied by the Vice General Chairman of SPS Pusat who also the Chief Excecutive Officer of Kompas Gramedia Group.

The accurate statictics of media is needed to cover the problems in the industries and the journalism as well. “To solve the problem about violence towards journalists, we have to have statistical data (about the violence),” says Jakob.

The statement is a feedback to the Excecutive Chairman of SPS Pusat, M. Ridlo ‘Eisy (Harian Pikiran Rakyat) about the increasing violence towards journalists.

Seeing from the industries point of view, according to Daniel Rembeth, Head of Research Sector (BeritaSatu Media Holdings), research is needed to meet up with the demand of the advertisers which is getting more and more complex.

Daniel refers to the trend in television, “The adverstisers in tv nowadays empashizing the balance between the rates and the money given to the media. The paid advertising cost depends on the rate,” Daniel explains.

In order to meet up the demand, it is needed the accurate and reliable research data, and is organized by the independent institution, says Amir Effendi Siregar, one of the Chiefs of SPS (Pint Point Group).

Amir adds, “SPS has to be able to build up a research institute. It is also to stop the misleading and the weakness from the media research lately.”

Agreeing with the statement, Executive Director of SPS Pusat, Asmono Wikan says, “SPS hast to make Manado (where The 2nd CEO Media Conference dan The 4th Indonesia Print Media Awards dan The 2nd Indonesia Inhouse Magazine Awards, February 2013 take place) as the initiation to build the research institution. We will also embrace several colleges and advertisers in it,” says Asmono.

The 1,5 hours meeting is also attended by Bambang Halilintar (one of Chiefs of SPS Pusat/SWA), Syamsudin H. Sutarto (Head of Membership Sector/BUMN Track), St. Sularto (Vice General Chief of Harian Kompas), and Rikard Bagun (Editor in Chief of Harian Kompas).***
